Jordan Manners case declared a mistrail.



Remember this? Jordan Manners the first ever shooting to happen in a Toronto high school. What a crazy place we live in. Where people can kill and go scott free,our youth are becoming far to ruthless. In all honesty is shooting someone at a high school on a monday not asking to get caught.Maybe its just me. What do you think ?

May 23, 2007:
Police initially received reports of a drowning at the C.W. Jefferys school pool around 2:35 p.m., but when they arrived they found 15-year old Jordan Manners suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The school remained in lockdown for hours as heavily-armed Emergency Task Force officers searched the school. Manners becomes the first student ever killed in a Toronto school.

May 27, 2007:
Two suspects, 17, are arrested and charged and charged with first degree murder in Manners’ death. Because they are underage, they are known only as J.W. and C.D. The arrests came after a series of raids in the Jane St. and Finch Ave. area.

Meanwhile, Manners’ mother Lorraine Smalls spoke out demanding an inquest into her son’s death.

May 31, 2007:
Jordan Manners was laid to rest at Christian Centre Church. More than a thousands mourners packed the chapel, and hundreds more stood outside, listening over loud speakers.

June 5, 2007:
The Toronto District School Board announced that Julian Falconer, a well-known human rights lawyer, will chair a safety advisory panel for the board, investigating the state of C.W. Jefferys before the Manners shooting.

January 10, 2008:
The safety advisory panel’s 1, 000-page report is released. It costs $800, 000 and makes 126 recommendations.

Sept 2008:
Armed officers begin patrolling 27 schools. The plan is a partnership between Toronto Police and the Catholic and public school boards. However, CW Jefferys is not among the schools first included.

February 3, 2010:
The trial begins for the two men charged with first-degree murder. Both “J.W.” and “C.D.” plead not guilty.

March 26, 2010:
A mistrial is declared after the jury cannot reach a verdict. The pair remain charged with first-degree murder. They will be back in court April 1 to set a date for new trial.
