Cars would be banned from the Gardiner in favour of transit, pedestrian and cycling lanes, and drivers would be confined to an eight-lane Lake Shore Blvd., according to a $1.3 billion waterfront plan unveiled Tuesday by mayoral candidate Georgio Mammoliti.

The vision of University of Toronto architecture professors Ivan Saleff and Robert Wright, reimagines the Gardiner as a 6-kilometre “Skyway” similar to New York’s High Line, a pedestrian park that’s been built along an old elevated rail corridor. It would be open down the middle, like a giant skylight over Lake Shore.

“The Gardiner would open just like Moses opened up the sea,” said Mammoliti at a water’s-edge press conference near Cherry St.

Drivers, who would depend on Lake Shore Blvd. and a Front St. extension, would be tolled $2 to enter the city during the rush hour. They would also have the option of parking in two giant lots near the CNE and the foot of the Don Valley Expressway for the day for a $15 fee that would also include a transit pass.

Mammoliti’s plan also includes 12 new Sky Parks that would equal about 15 Yonge-Dundas Squares.

In the second phase of his plan, Mammoliti envisions transit lines to the Toronto Island and airport. The island would also be home to a convention centre and hotel.

“The whole thing talks about turning a mediocre waterfront into something special, … just like the Chicagos and the Vancouvers of this world,” he said.

Mammoliti wants to pay for the plan over four years using $200 million annually in revenue from a floating casino in the Toronto harbour, about $100 million annually in parking fees and about $75 million from road tolls.

"50 doesn’t party, he doesn’t drink. For his new film, the guy was, like, 130 pounds. He was running from the airport to the hotel. And I was like, ‘Man, he has the three D’s: desire, determination and [direction].’ " Tony Yayo said.

Four Canadian cities are among the top 25 in the world in terms of quality of living, according to a global survey published Wednesday.

Overall top spot on the list Mercer Quality of Living Survey is the Austrian city of Vienna.

Vancouver is the top Canadian city among 221 ranked this year, sharing the No. 4 spot with Auckland, New Zealand.

The other Canadian cities in the top 25 are Ottawa at 14, Toronto at 16 and Montreal at 21.

Calgary was ranked No. 28 on the overall quality of living ranking but got the top spot on a new ecology ranking.

No American city made the top 25 on the Mercer list. Honolulu had the top ranking in the United States at No 31.

So a friend of mine brought this to my attention the other day. There’s a line between quoting and jacking and I think it’s clear what side Drake is on at this point. Hip hop is known to as a sampling culture but when you do it you got to pay homage and it’s evident that Drake definitely needs to pay his respects. Taking lines and tweaking them as your own gives no credit to the mind that actually came up with it. Press play and compare Drakes second verse to Dead Prez’s first one, he not only takes the words but his whole style of delivery. Not Cool.

Police were called to Lawerence Avenue West at Bayview on Wednesday at around 10:45am.

According to police, the driver got into a fare dispute with a young man. Things allegedly turned violent, and the driver is accused of assaulting the man, breaking a window on the bus in the process.

"I just saw a broken window, and there were four cop cars," said student Graham Teeple, who was nearby when the incident took place.

The TTC's Brad Ross spoke to CityNews on Wednesday afternoon.

"My understanding is it was a fare dispute, it had to do with a student fare and not having a student i.d. and it escalated from there," he said.

The alleged victim, 18-year old Ricardo Jardim, was hurt, but not seriously.

Hagos Bereket, 30, of Toronto, has been charged with assault.

He will appear in court May 25.

The TTC has gone on record as saying everyday, one of their employees becomes a victim of assault. The transit commission does have a set of guidelines laid out for conflict resolution.

This incident comes as the TTC is working hard to repair its damaged reputation among riders, following a spat of bad publicity, including a highly publicized photo of a sleeping ticket collector, a fare hike, and the downfall of Chairman Adam Giambrone. -CityNews

Apple says it sold more than 300,000 iPads on Saturday, the day it debuted across the United States.

Sales included pre-orders of the iPad, a new type of touch-screen device that blends features of the iPhone, electronic book readers and tablet computers.

The device will go on sale in Canada later this month.

Prices start at $499 for iPads that connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi. Apple will sell costlier iPads with cellular data connections later this month.

Apple says that iPad owners downloaded over a million applications from its app store and more than 250,000 electronic books Saturday.

Law enforcement officials in Dallas are considering hitting Erykah Badu with a disorderly conduct charge for walking around Dallas’ Dealey Plaza in the nude while filming her controversial new video “Window Seat” (YouTubes of the clip have been removed, but it’s posted in full on Badu’s official website). While no one who witnessed Badu’s strip show called law enforcement at the time of the shoot, police are actively asking anyone who saw Badu naked to step forward and file a complaint. “I don’t think it’s going to be something she would go to jail behind, but certainly the message has to be sent,” Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway told WFAA-TV.

Durham police said an ongoing dispute between two Oshawa teens sparked a fight that ended with a 16-year-old boy being fatally stabbed in front of a crowd of students at a bus shelter Tuesday afternoon.

The victim, identified by friends as Mike McDonald, got into a fight with a fellow student from Oshawa's Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School while they waited for the bus across the road from the school at Rossland and Stevenson Rds., friends said.

Moments later, he was stabbed in the chest and fell to the ground, said Kyle Roberts, 19, a former student who played football with McDonald. "I saw him lying on the ground being worked on as they tried to resuscitate him."

McDonald, known at school as "Biggie," was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An 18-year-old was arrested within minutes, said Durham police spokesman Dave Selby.

McDonald is the region's fourth homicide victim this year. - The Toronto Star

With two studio albums and a slew of EP's Ali is mos def someone to look into. I am a definate fan or his work.

Remember this? Jordan Manners the first ever shooting to happen in a Toronto high school. What a crazy place we live in. Where people can kill and go scott free,our youth are becoming far to ruthless. In all honesty is shooting someone at a high school on a monday not asking to get caught.Maybe its just me. What do you think ?

Police initially received reports of a drowning at the C.W. Jefferys school pool around 2:35 p.m., but when they arrived they found 15-year old Jordan Manners suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The school remained in lockdown for hours as heavily-armed Emergency Task Force officers searched the school. Manners becomes the first student ever killed in a Toronto school.

May 27, 2007:
Two suspects, 17, are arrested and charged and charged with first degree murder in Manners’ death. Because they are underage, they are known only as J.W. and C.D. The arrests came after a series of raids in the Jane St. and Finch Ave. area.

Meanwhile, Manners’ mother Lorraine Smalls spoke out demanding an inquest into her son’s death.

May 31, 2007:
Jordan Manners was laid to rest at Christian Centre Church. More than a thousands mourners packed the chapel, and hundreds more stood outside, listening over loud speakers.

June 5, 2007:
The Toronto District School Board announced that Julian Falconer, a well-known human rights lawyer, will chair a safety advisory panel for the board, investigating the state of C.W. Jefferys before the Manners shooting.

January 10, 2008:
The safety advisory panel’s 1, 000-page report is released. It costs $800, 000 and makes 126 recommendations.

Sept 2008:
Armed officers begin patrolling 27 schools. The plan is a partnership between Toronto Police and the Catholic and public school boards. However, CW Jefferys is not among the schools first included.

February 3, 2010:
The trial begins for the two men charged with first-degree murder. Both “J.W.” and “C.D.” plead not guilty.

March 26, 2010:
A mistrial is declared after the jury cannot reach a verdict. The pair remain charged with first-degree murder. They will be back in court April 1 to set a date for new trial.

Alleged rumors that Drake was robbed in the spring of 09 seem to be coming to light now. Drake has pressed charges against fellow Toronto rapper Page claiming he was robbed by gun point. This won’t really effect his standing in the media because Drake is not on the scene as gangster rapper. But what will happen to his Toronto love? will is toronto fans still support him? will he still be safe to return and roam streets freely? After being over shadowed on his own track "im still fly" i wonder how Page feels about this?

Wow. What can I say? It’s been a great run in this competition and I feel blessed to even have been a part of it. Last night on March 25th 2010 myself, Aria Muzik, David Delisca, Coco Cognac Brown, and My-kal battled it out for the amazing prize of 500 dollars Cash!!! Free tution to Centennial Colleges Recording Arts program, and a"ONE ASK" from Trey Anthony of The Kink in My Hair herself. Week after week artist brought their A game to woo the judges and I was fortunate to place in 3rd place among the 20 contestants that started. Second place was taken by the stunning and talented Aria Muzik, and the grand prize was given to the amazing soul singing sista Coco Cognac Brown. I learned a lot from this competition that will most def follow me for the rest of my life. Hearing comments like "This competition is not big enough to hold you "- From Rachael-Lea Rickards ( Actor in The Kink in My Hair & Producer). This being my first official competition I couldn’t be more pleased with the results, I impressed myself and have in more confidence in craft and am looking forward to what the future will hold for me……..
